Queen Beatrix

70 x 100 cm (27 x 39 inches)

Acrylics and watercolor pencil on illustration board.

This is a fairly static and formal pose. The reason why I chose this composition was to emphasize the public function and dignity that befits a Queen.

Although not readily apparent, the orange in the background represents the Dutch royal colors.

Not only the orange, but the entire color palette is carefully chosen to provide a balance that would give this painting a semi classical look. There are many other hidden symbols, but these are to be discovered by the viewer.
